Project Engineer
Job Title: Project Engineer
Reporting to: Project Manager
About the Role
The Project Engineer will support the Project Manager through the tendering, planning, development, and delivery of Overhead Line and Substation projects, ensuring the highest standards of health & safety, environmental compliance, and quality, while maintaining productivity.
The role is on-site-based, requiring collaboration with experienced teams, leadership of subcontractors, and travel across multiple sites throughout the UK.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Core responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Health & Safety Leadership
- Ensure personal safety, colleague safety, and the safety of others while actively promoting Positive Intervention reporting.
- Monitor and inspect works regularly, proactively reducing site hazards.
- Conduct routine hazard identification and mitigate risks.

Documentation & Compliance
- Develop and brief project inductions and setting-to-work briefings.
- Compile, issue, and maintain documentation (e.g., permit to dig) and permit registers.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, maintaining accurate Inspection and Test Plans and records.

Project Oversight & Coordination
- Cover Site Manager / Project Manager duties during absences or on smaller projects as needed.
- Monitor programme timescales and project progress to ensure deadlines are met.
- Minimise project costs and capture potential changes while assessing their impact.
- Maintain an accurate and updated daily site diary.

Quality & Environmental Compliance
- Ensure all work adheres to Omexom and client standards, policies, and procedures.
- Identify and brief environmental hazards to all site workforce.
- Comply with statutory legislation and public body requirements.

Stakeholder Management
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with team members, clients, landowners, third parties (e.g., Network Rail, Highways Agency), suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Liaise with design and engineering teams on technical/project-related matters.

Training & Professional Growth
- Develop and maintain skills and competencies aligned with Omexom’s training standards and legislative changes.
- Deliver Toolbox Talks and safety briefings.
- Support the tendering process where required.
Person Specification
Experience & Qualifications
Essential requirements include:
- Proven experience in the overhead line construction industry, with a strong understanding of health, safety, environment, and quality.
- Technical expertise in utilities and construction sectors.
- Industry-recognised Engineering or Safety qualification.
- Experience supervising overhead line construction activities, including subcontractor management.
- Knowledge of regulatory bodies, including Network Rail, Highways Agency, Environment Agency, and DNOs.

- Full UK driving license.
- Ability to maintain compliance with safety rules and documentation.

- Strong commitment to acting professionally while representing Omexom.
