We are recruiting for a Building & Civils Project Engineer to join the Southern Commercial Property Engineering Team. This role will play a key part in supporting the successful development and delivery of projects across a diverse commercial property portfolio within the Southern Region.
The successful candidate will support Engineering Assurance activities, ensuring compliance with engineering governance and assurance management processes throughout the project lifecycle. They will be responsible for providing robust evidence and assurance documentation from project inception through to delivery and handover.
This position requires an individual who can balance both the technical and commercial aspects of project delivery, working closely with stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering standards.

We're looking for a Project Engineer to join our team and play a key role in managing the design and construction activities of a diverse portfolio of projects. You'll work alongside multidisciplinary teams, contractors and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest engineering standards.

What You'll Be Doing
As a Project Engineer, you'll lead and coordinate engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring projects meet safety, quality, time and cost requirements. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities in accordance with Network Rail standards, legislation and environmental requirements.
- Ensuring engineering solutions are compliant with Railway Group Standards, Network Rail standards and project specifications.
- Driving safe, efficient and cost-effective project delivery while maintaining a strong focus on quality and sustainability.
- Applying risk management techniques, including qualitative and quantitative risk assessments and HAZOP analysis.
- Monitoring and managing the performance of consultants, contractors and specialist suppliers.
- Providing engineering and project management advice during construction, testing, commissioning and site supervision activities.
- Ensuring design and construction activities comply with current legislation, including CDM Regulations.
- Reviewing engineering outputs and undertaking audits to assure safety, quality and environmental performance.
- Carrying out the duties of a Designated Project Engineer (DPE) where required.
- Identifying opportunities for improvement and sharing best practice across project teams.

Essential
Your experience and skills
- Successful relevant experience in signalling engineering, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi discipline areas.
- Technical qualifications to HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level.
- Knowledge of quality assurance.
- An understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of work.
- CDM, risk assessment, engineering management competency.
Desirable
- Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level.
- Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects.
- An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works.
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
- Project safety management experience.
- Yellow book course.
