About the Role

The Ipsen Wrexham site is undergoing a transformation: with significant small, medium, and large-scale capital projects opportunities now, and into the future. We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our growing Capital Projects team in Wrexham. In this role, you will support the delivery of capital investment projects across the site, managing engineering projects and work packages from concept through to completion.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders, contractors, and equipment suppliers to deliver projects safely, compliantly, and efficiently, ensuring objectives relating to quality, cost, and schedule are achieved.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with project delivery experience in a regulated manufacturing environment who enjoys combining technical expertise with project management responsibilities. Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Lead and manage engineering projects and work packages throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, and progress reports.
  • Monitor project performance against agreed objectives and milestones.
  • Support project governance processes, including reporting risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Contribute to business cases, project scopes, and capital expenditure proposals.

Engineering & Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical input and engineering expertise during project development and execution.
  • Evaluate engineering solutions and conduct technical feasibility assessments.
  • Participate in design reviews from concept through detailed design stages.
  • Prepare and review engineering documentation, including user requirement specifications and technical specifications.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with GMP, quality, and site compliance requirements.
  • Support quality risk assessments and change control activities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and contribute to risk assessments and hazard reviews.
  • Ensure contractors and suppliers operate in line with site safety and environmental expectations.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, quality, validation, and EHS teams.
  • Manage relationships with engineering service providers, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Support equipment testing activities, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Coordinate commissioning, qualification, and handover activities.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and ways of working.
  • Support problem-solving and root cause investigations.
  • Contribute to operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualification in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting or delivering engineering projects in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of project management principles including scope, cost, quality, and schedule management.
  • Knowledge of engineering design and project execution processes.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work collaboratively across multiple teams.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, chemical manufacturing, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Membership of, or progress towards membership of, a recognised engineering institution such as IChemE, IMechE, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with GMP-regulated environments.

  • Occasional travel (up to approximately 20%) may be required for supplier visits, testing activities, training, and project meetings.
