Project Engineer

Location: Blackbushe
Position Type: Permanent
Compensation: Competitive salary (DOE)


We are looking for a hands-on Project Engineer to join a specialist engineering team delivering bespoke subsea systems and instrumentation across the Energy, Ocean Science, Defence and Offshore Renewables sectors.

This is a varied technical position offering involvement throughout the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and system development through to assembly, integration, testing, verification and final customer delivery. You will work closely with Project Managers, Systems Engineers and multidisciplinary teams across Mechanical, Electronics, Software and Production. The role would suit an engineer who enjoys remaining technically hands-on whilst taking responsibility for the successful delivery of complex engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the development and delivery of bespoke subsea systems and instrumentation
  • Assembly and integration of mechanical and electronic components, from board level through to complete systems
  • Developing and carrying out bench, environmental and in-water testing across hardware, firmware and software
  • Using laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes and digital multimeters to verify system performance
  • Identifying, diagnosing and resolving technical issues at component and complete system level
  • Carrying out fault-finding, troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
  • Supporting the development, assembly and testing of prototypes and new systems
  • Working with Project Managers and Systems Engineers to define technical requirements and develop customer-specific solutions
  • Producing and maintaining technical drawings, test procedures, manuals, specifications and project documentation
  • Coordinating engineering activities across Mechanical, Electronics, Software and Production teams
  • Supporting customer acceptance testing, system trials and technical demonstrations
  • Providing technical support and operational guidance to customers throughout the lifecycle of delivered systems

Key Skills

  • Degree in an Engineering discipline such as Electronics, Mechanical, Systems, Communications, Software Engineering or similar
  • Strong practical problem-solving and fault-finding abilities
  • Experience using standard laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes and digital multimeters
  • Experience working with electronic, mechanical or electromechanical systems
  • Good understanding of system testing, verification and validation
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Visio

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of CAD packages such as Autodesk or SolidWorks
  • Programming experience with Python and/or C++
  • Experience with JIRA or similar project and issue-tracking tools
  • Awareness of embedded software development
  • Knowledge of analogue and digital electronics
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles
  • Previous experience within engineering design, product development, systems integration or verification and validation
  • Experience within subsea, marine, defence, energy, offshore or another complex engineering environment would be advantageous
