Job Introduction

Tarmac has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our team based at our Cement Plant in Dunbar.

Reporting to the Project Manager, this role is responsible for specifying and implementing site improvement projects and creating innovative solutions to plant issues and meeting all project objectives within safety, quality, time and budget, while managing associated risks.

You will work with the plant colleagues and contractors to ensure successful scoping, planning, project implementation and integration into business as usual. The role will also act as front-line contractor supervisor on their own and site strategic projects from both a H&S and subject matter expert point of view.

Main responsibilities:

  • Contribute to plant project proposals or plans to determine time frame, identifying limitations, procedures & requirements for accomplishing the projects, for their specific projects own this process.
  • Manage issues and escalation as they relate to project delivery.
  • Supervise and motivate large project teams to ensure project delivery.
  • Provide regular program/project health reports & reviews to feed into the overall plant project portfolio.
  • Contribute to post implementation project reviews to ensure lessons learned can be integrated into future project delivery as well as third party project reviews.
  • Support and provide responses to any internal or external compliance audits or investigations.
  • Proactively engage in the S&H performance and behaviours of the project or plant teams and contractors involved anywhere on site, to continuously improve safety practices and standards.
  • Effectively & clearly communicate toolbox talks and serious events reviews to project contract teams.
  • Be responsible safety & housekeeping standards implemented in all projects in this roles scope ensuring that all Legal requirements & Tarmac procedures are followed.
  • On occasion deputise for the project manager.
  • Participate and contribute towards RCA and continuous improvement plans.

  • Strong communication skills and cross functional collaboration.
