Overview

Join Celanese as a Project Engineer at our Newport Specialty Elastomers Plant in a pivotal role that will shape the future of our operations. This opportunity allows you to lead and manage capital investment projects, ensuring they meet the highest standards of Environmental Health and Safety while staying within budget and time constraints.

As a Project Engineer, you will be at the forefront of implementing new or modified processes and plant equipment, from initial design development to construction, commissioning, and handover. You will gain invaluable experience in project management, including design, planning, execution, and control of CAPEX and OPEX investments. Your role will involve close collaboration with the Continuous Improvement Leader, Reliability Leads, and Maintenance Manager, as well as liaising with the Global Capital Team and Operations Team to ensure seamless project execution and plant operations.

  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety standards as well as internal financial controls.
  • Develop and execute the annual and 5-year Capital Plan.
  • Drive productivity improvement projects and manage change activities.
  • Independently solve complex issues and escalate when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and managing capital investment projects at the Newport Specialty Elastomers Plant. Responsible for all project management activities related to CAPEX and OPEX investments, including project design and approval requests; project planning, execution, and financial control (forecasting and reporting).
  • Plays a pivotal role in leading the implementation of new or modified processes and plant equipment, from initial design development and evaluation to construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Ensure all projects comply with Environmental Health and Safety requirements and within cost and time goals.
  • Work closely with the Global Capital Team to ensure the correct level of spend and control (Capital Vs Expense) as well as update and maintain the Newport site Asset Register.
  • Develop and execute the annual and 5-year Capital Plan, liaising with the Operations Team to agree any plant outages required to carry out Project work.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Work closely on a daily basis with the Continuous Improvement Leader, Reliability Leads, and Maintenance Manager.
  • Scoping of productivity improvement projects including management of change activities

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven Project Engineering experience and capital investment projects.
  • Proven project management experience, preferably within the manufacturing sector.
  • Engineering-related degree / qualification or similar level of experience.
  • Proficient with basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office) and working knowledge of SAP or other Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization, influencing others without authority and delivering on time and to expectations.
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. Demonstrated experience problem-solving and troubleshooting on a variety of systems.
  • Ability to handle a breadth of work items across several areas and differing timescales.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and assist the business unit in prioritizing work items.
  • Experience using safe systems of work (i.e., Permit to Work, Risk Assessments, Management of Change).

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Ability to read (and edit) P&ID, General Arrangement, and detail CAD drawings (AutoCAD software experience preferable).
  • Commitment to safety and a proactive attitude toward maintaining a secure work environment. Attained or working towards HSE based professional qualification, e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Awareness and general knowledge of control systems and instrumentation.
  • Proven track record of contractor management.
