About The Role
About the role:
We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineer to join our team as a Project Engineer [Civils], supporting the delivery of key railway projects across the STEP (Signalling Telecomms & E&P) organisation.
The portfolio includes multi-disciplinary projects of varying scale, complexity and PACE stages, with civil engineering activities involving structures and ancillary civils to support the various Signalling, E&P and telecoms equipment.
Alongside your responsibilities as Project Engineer [Civils], you will also have the opportunity to broaden your experience by undertaking the Designated Project Engineer (DPE) role where appropriate.
Package: This role sits within Band 4C.
Salary range: £43,588 - £53,167 depending on experience.
Location: The successful candidate can be based in either Birmingham Baskerville House or Manchester Square One

Your Experience And Skills
What you'll be doing:
You'll ensure all engineering and project activities are delivered safely on time and within budget, while meeting Network Rail standards, legislation and environmental expectations. The role involves managing design and construction from specification through to testing and commissioning, overseeing contractors and consultants, and making sure everyone involved is competent and working to the right standards. You'll apply effective risk and HAZOP assessments, monitor quality and compliance through reviews and audits, and provide practical project management guidance across site activities. Acting as Designated Project Engineer where required, you'll also build strong relationships with stakeholders and regulators, while sharing best practice to continuously improve delivery across projects.
What You'll Have
- Relevant experience in [Civil] engineering, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi discipline areas
- Technical qualifications to HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level in Civil Engineering
- Knowledge of quality assurance
- An understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of work
- CDM, risk assessment, engineering management competency
We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be:
- Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level
- Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects
- An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt
- Project safety management experience
- Yellow book course
