About the role

To manage D&P design and construction activities for allocated projects, delivering safe, compliant and affordable engineering solutions. Apply Minimum Viable Product (MVP) principles to maximise value through design refinement, option evaluation and the development of efficient, proportionate engineering solutions aligned to project value drivers.

Your Main Responsibilities Will Be To

• To manage D&P design and construction activities for allocated projects, delivering safe, compliant and affordable engineering solutions. Apply Minimum Viable Product (MVP) principles to maximise value through design refinement, option evaluation and proportionate engineering.
• Engineer and manage projects in accordance with Network Rail standards and specifications, ensuring that all allocated design and construction contracts are compliant with applicable Railway Group Standards, Network Rail standards, formal specifications, governance requirements and approved procedures
• Lead and manage all engineering activities to deliver affordable, safe and environmentally responsible schemes that meet programme requirements and achieve agreed time, cost and quality objectives.
• Lead the application of appropriate risk assessment techniques, including hazard identification workshops and HAZOP analysis where required, to identify, assess and manage project risks, ensuring hazard records are maintained and environmental aspects are managed in accordance with Network Rail policies, standards and procedures.
• Manage and monitor the performance of design consultants, specialist consultants and contractors, ensuring that deliverables are produced safely, to the required quality, within programme and budget constraints, and in compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.
• Provide technical and project management advice across all construction activities, including testing, commissioning and site supervision. Lead and manage the design and/or construction elements of allocated projects, ensuring compliance with current legislation, including the Construction (Design and Management) 2015 Regulations (CDM), together with all applicable Network Rail standards, specifications and governance requirements
• Provide assurance that internal and contractor design, construction and specialist personnel are competent for the roles undertaken, ensuring appropriate skills, knowledge, experience, qualifications and authority are in place to safely deliver project requirements.
• Undertake and lead D&P engineering assurance activities, including IDC, IDR, DRN, technical reviews and construction assurance reviews, to provide assurance that engineering deliverables comply with project requirements, applicable legislation, standards, specifications and governance requirements. Arrange, support and monitor audits of contractors to ensure that safety, environmental, quality, design, construction, testing, commissioning and management systems are effectively implemented and remain adequate throughout project delivery
• Undertake the role of Designated Project Engineer (DPE) for allocated projects, providing engineering leadership and assurance to ensure that all project activities are delivered safely, compliantly and in accordance with applicable legislation, standards, specifications and governance requirements.
• Provide cover for the Designated Project Engineer (DPE) at meetings, site visits, reviews and other project events as required, representing the engineering interests of the project and supporting effective decision-making.
• Identify, develop and share best practice, lessons learned and innovative solutions across project teams to support continuous improvement, drive consistency in delivery and enhance engineering, safety and project performance.
• Undertake periodic Level 1 assurance of D&P engineering activities to verify compliance with applicable standards, specifications and governance requirements, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and enhance the safety of project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
