We are currently seeking an experienced Contract Project Engineer to support a leading blue-chip FMCG company at their Chirk manufacturing site on a significant ATEX project programme.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing project scopes aimed at identifying and reducing dust explosion hazards, improving site compliance and delivering practical engineering solutions across the process environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer with a strong ATEX / combustible dust background to take ownership of projects from initial site assessment and risk identification through to scope development, budget approval and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of ATEX-related engineering projects across the site.

- Work closely with the site engineering, operations, EHS and maintenance teams to understand hazards and develop appropriate engineering solutions.
- Develop project scopes to reduce and control combustible dust hazards and associated explosion risks.
- Provide technical input and recommendations based on current ATEX requirements, industry standards and good engineering practice.
- Develop CAPEX estimates, project budgets and business cases to support investment decisions.
- Prepare project documentation and secure the necessary budget approval and stakeholder sign-off.
- Manage projects through the engineering lifecycle, from initial concept and scope development through to implementation and completion.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders, contractors and specialist suppliers as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
