Contract: Permanent
We're recruiting for a Project Engineer – Hydraulics on behalf of a well-established engineering business that designs and delivers bespoke hydraulic and motion control systems for demanding industrial applications. This is a varied, hands-on role combining project coordination, technical engineering and customer-facing work, with opportunities for both UK and international travel.
This position would suit an engineer with a strong background in hydraulics who enjoys seeing projects through from initial design and build, right through to installation, commissioning and customer support.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of projects both in-house and on customer sites
- Coordinate engineering design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and documentation
- Monitor project progress, resolve technical issues and report status to management
- Carry out in-house setup, testing, calibration and fault-finding of hydraulic systems
- Support on-site installation, testing, calibration and commissioning activities
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and directives (ISO, Machinery Directive, Health & Safety)
- Prepare method statements, risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Act as the technical point of contact for customers during project delivery
- Liaise with customers to clarify requirements and provide post-installation training
- Provide ongoing customer support, both on-site and remotely
- Participate in design reviews and project close-out activities

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
