Project Engineer - IT Specialist

ITN is seeking a project engineer to work in our award-winning Technology team at ITN. You will be process-driven and responsible for the delivery of project scoping, research, system designs, implementation, documentation and successful handovers of any projects allocated to you or the wider team.

You will also be expected to work with system suppliers to ensure that our systems are kept up-to-date and follow best practice guidelines. This will include responsibility for planning any necessary updates and defining the test procedures used to ensure that critical functionality will be maintained during the course of any planned work.

The IT infrastructure underpins the whole business from core corporate services including email and internet access, to the Avid systems and broadcast equipment that delivers our programme output. Ensuring its stability and performance is critical and, as we continue to move into a more IP dominated world, the importance of the underlying networks and technology that delivers the connectivity is ever increasing.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Whilst mainly office based, there will be requirements to work offsite and/or outside of business hours, at short notice on deployment projects and for larger special events, as the business agenda dictates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the expectations and understand the needs of multiple stakeholders
  • Facilitate the negotiation of requirements amongst multiple stakeholders, ensuring their views are heard and included in the scoping process
  • Design, build and deploy Windows Server infrastructure, including domain services, file and print services, and application servers
  • Define, document and maintain the standard build and configuration for end-user devices, including OS baselines, security policies, and application deployment via Group Policy and Intune
  • Aid in advanced troubleshooting and diagnosis of corporate technology systems
  • Install and configure a variety of IT, Network, and telephony related systems
  • Define test procedures to ensure that systems function as expected and in-line with project deliverables
  • Contribute to patching, hardening and lifecycle management of the Windows estate, working with the Cyber Security and Support teams
  • Ensure all relevant documentation is kept up-to-date, including user and equipment lists
  • Provide on-site assistance at special events
  • Carry out hardware tasks such as installing servers, replacing components, and racking or cabling equipment as required

These are the main requirements of the role and is not an exhaustive list of duties. It is intended to reflect the nature, range, and context of the work, which will change over time.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience gathering requirements from clients/business and documenting them
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to organise and manage personal workload
  • Strongly process-driven approach to work, with an ability to embed and follow structured processes in technology delivery
  • Ability to identify system changes and verify that technical system specifications meet business requirements
  • Experience working in a mid-sized or large organisation, with exposure to the challenges of supporting large estates and multiple teams
  • Strong hands-on experience building, configuring and administering Windows Server (2019/2022/2025), including patching, hardening and troubleshooting at scale
  • In-depth understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, and other Microsoft infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, certificate services, and Windows Failover Clustering
  • Experience managing the Windows client estate, including OS deployment and imaging, application packaging and patching (e.g. Intune/Autopilot, SCCM/MECM, WSUS)
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID (Azure AD), including hybrid identity, conditional access and licensing concepts
  • Strong PowerShell scripting ability - you write your own scripts and modules for automation, configuration and reporting, rather than only running scripts others have written. Wider automation experience (e.g. Infrastructure as Code, Ansible, Python) is a bonus
  • Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms. Microsoft Intune is preferred, but experience with comparable solutions (e.g. JAMF, AirWatch/Workspace ONE, MobileIron) is also valuable
  • Good knowledge of IP with solid understanding of network hardware and topologies including switches, routers, copper, and fibre connections
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Azure cloud services
  • Hands-on experience working with IT hardware including servers and components
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms and technologies (e.g. Hyper-V, Proxmox, VMware, Nutanix), with the ability to design and deploy virtualisation clusters
