Job title: Project Engineer

Job Type: Contract

Start date: Immediate

Duration: Up to Dec 2026 (Extension possible beyond this)

Pay rate: Up to £350 PAYE / £475 Umbrella per day

Location: Bridgwater, Somerset

Hours of work: 3 days on site per week, 2 days remote

About the Role

The Project Engineer - Pipework / Support Manufacturing will provide engineering and technical support throughout the manufacturing lifecycle, working closely with the Piping Manufacture Lead, design teams, construction teams, and manufacturers to ensure piping and support packages progress safely, efficiently, and to programme. The role will coordinate technical queries, design changes, engineering inputs, and manufacturing issues, ensuring timely resolution and effective communication between stakeholders. Working within a technically complex and highly regulated environment, the position will support progress from early design and constructability through to manufacturing completion and handover, with a strong focus on quality, schedule, and technical delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and technical support to the Package Project Management team.
  • Track support book releases, design holds, and manufacturing progress through to completion.
  • Manage design changes and updates between HO2 and HO3.
  • Manage and coordinate the Technical Query (TQ) process, including regular TQ meetings.
  • Coordinate responses and technical resolutions between engineering, design, manufacturing, and construction teams.
  • Maintain CEMAR records to reflect TQ progress and resolutions.
  • Provide engineering input to HO3 requirements and manufacturing activities.
  • Support HO1-HO2 constructability reviews and resolve technical issues.
  • Facilitate communication between Responsible Designers, Execution Designers, and manufacturers.
  • Provide technical support to procurement, including subcontractor pre-qualification and tender processes.
  • Work with Quality, BIS, and technical specialists to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Support construction teams with TQ resolution and manufacturing-related issues.
  • Escalate technical and engineering issues to the Piping Manufacture Lead where required.
  • Provide package status updates, forecasts, and progress information to project stakeholders.
  • Share lessons learned and coordinate with other Package Engineering Leads on interlinked scopes.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Project Engineer, Package Engineer, Piping Engineer, or similar within a technically complex environment.
  • Experience in pipework manufacturing, piping construction, or engineering, ideally within Nuclear, Energy, Construction, or another regulated sector.
  • Strong experience managing technical queries, design changes, engineering issues, and manufacturing support.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and influence engineering, design, manufacturing, procurement, and construction stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on quality and programme delivery.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations, Microsoft Office, and ideally PDMS/Navisworks and CEMAR/Teamcenter.
  • Ability to work autonomously while escalating technical issues appropriately.
