About the job
At Duratec Roofing, successful projects begin with great planning and relationships.
As our Commercial Roofing Estimator, you’ll play a central role in securing profitable commercial roofing and refurbishment projects by producing accurate, competitive and technically considered tenders. You’ll take ownership of your own tenders, working directly with the Managing Director and delivery team—from reviewing enquiries and visiting sites through to pricing, negotiations and project handover. This is a brand-new position and our first dedicated estimating role. You’ll have the opportunity to help shape the department, improve our systems and influence how Duratec assesses, prices and secures future work. As the business grows, there is genuine potential to progress into an Estimating Manager or Head of Estimating position, helping recruit and lead the future estimating team.
What you’ll do:
- Review enquiries, drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documents
- Visit sites to take measurements and assess access, logistics and project constraints
- Develop suitable roofing solutions with clients, surveyors, manufacturers and the delivery team
- Prepare accurate labour, material, plant, access, preliminary and subcontractor costs
- Issue enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors, follow up responses and resolve discrepancies
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, technical risks and value-engineering opportunities
- Produce clear, competitive and commercially sound quotations and tender submissions
- Follow up tenders and support client negotiations through to decision
- Maintain accurate tender records, assumptions, revisions and pipeline information
- Prepare comprehensive handover information for secured projects
- Review tender outcomes and completed-project costs to improve future pricing
- Help develop Duratec’s estimating systems, rate library and tender processes

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
