Project Estimator – Utilities & Civil Engineering
📍 Coventry
We’re recruiting for an experienced Project Estimator to join an established civil engineering contractor delivering utilities and infrastructure projects across the UK.
This is a hands-on estimating opportunity suited to someone with direct experience pricing utility-related civil engineering works, including electricity, gas, water, or multi-utility projects.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for preparing accurate and commercially robust estimates, working closely with project and delivery teams to ensure tenders reflect the practical realities of delivering the work.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing estimates and budgets from drawings, specifications, and tender information
- Producing detailed cost build-ups covering labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors
- Completing quantity take-offs and reviewing project scope
- Obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Identifying exclusions, assumptions, and commercial risks
- Preparing competitive tender submissions and proposals
- Working with project teams to validate construction methodology and cost assumptions
- Supporting cost reviews and using project feedback to improve future estimates

What We’re Looking For
- Previous utilities estimating experience is essential
- Experience within electricity, gas, water, or multi-utility infrastructure
- Strong understanding of civil engineering and utility installation costs
- Experience building tenders from quantities and first-principles costs
- Confidence pricing labour, materials, plant, and subcontract packages
- Strong numerical and analytical ability
- Good Excel and estimating-system capability
- Ability to clearly explain assumptions, risks, and pricing decisions
- Able to work from Coventry and support project/site coordination where required

Multi-utility experience would be advantageous, but candidates with strong estimating experience in a specific utility discipline will also be considered.
