Vertu Motors, Project General Manager - Yorkshire
Every so often, we create a unique opportunity to bring exceptional senior leadership talent into our business from outside the Group. These appointments strengthen our leadership capability and provide a pathway for high-performing individuals to accelerate their careers within one of the UK's leading automotive retailers.
We are now seeking an outstanding Project General Manager to support our operations across the Midlands and Yorkshire regions.
To succeed in this role, you will already have a proven track record as a high-performing General Manager within a franchised motor retail environment. You will be someone who can quickly establish credibility, inspire teams, drive performance, and create a culture focused on delivering outstanding customer experiences.
You will bring energy, resilience, and determination alongside a strong work ethic and personal standards that align with our Values. Most importantly, you will be able to quickly identify opportunities, cut through complexity and deliver meaningful, sustainable results.
Reporting directly to our Chief Executive Officer and one of our Operational Board Directors, you will undertake a series of strategic placements across dealerships within the East Midlands and Yorkshire regions. This unique exposure will enable you to develop a broad understanding of our business before progressing into a permanent role, whether that be leading a larger dealership operation or moving into a more senior leadership position.
We have a proven fast-track onboarding and development programme designed to give you the insight, support and tools needed to succeed quickly. Whilst no guarantees can be made regarding future progression, many of our previous Project General Managers have gone on to enjoy exceptional careers within the Group, progressing into larger General Manager roles and senior leadership positions. Others continue to thrive in the variety and challenge that the Project General Manager role offers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
