Project Implementation Director – Scotland Container Sorting Facility

Edinburgh or Glasgow | Fixed-term contract

Part of the UK Deposit Return Scheme

Help deliver a major new recycling facility for Scotland

Re.Group has been selected by Exchange for Change to deliver, mobilise and operate the processing facility for Scotland as part of the UK's new Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), working alongside Hargreaves Services, which will provide the associated collection logistics.

At the centre of Re.Group's scope is a new Container Sorting Facility in Scotland, which will receive, sort and process returned beverage containers when the scheme commences in October 2027.

Re.Group brings extensive experience from Australia, where we participate in container deposit schemes across every mainland state and the Australian Capital Territory. We have developed deep capability in high-throughput sorting and processing facilities, recycling technology, operational systems and infrastructure delivery at scale.

We are now building the team that will deliver and mobilise the Scottish facility and establish the operational capability required to run it successfully from Day 1. We are seeking an experienced Project Implementation Director to lead the integrated implementation and mobilisation programme.

About the role

Based in Edinburgh or Glasgow and reporting to the Managing Director or nominated Executive Sponsor, you will bring together the project, operational, commercial, technology, financial and local mobilisation workstreams required to achieve a successful go-live.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

This is not the Project Manager role. Technical project delivery will remain led by Re.Group's Technical Services team in Australia. Your focus will be on ensuring the broader programme comes together — aligning delivery, decisions, risks, budgets, people, systems and operational readiness around a common set of contractual and commencement milestones.

You will:

  • Lead the integrated implementation and mobilisation programme across all key workstreams.
  • Maintain clear oversight of milestones, dependencies, risks, decisions and operational readiness.
  • Ensure implementation activities remain aligned with contractual obligations and Day 1 performance requirements.
  • Establish effective governance, reporting and escalation across UK and Australian teams.
  • Oversee implementation and mobilisation budgets, forecasts and emerging commercial risks.
  • Lead local mobilisation across people, systems, suppliers, services and operational support arrangements.
  • Act as the senior integration point between the Scotland-based programme and Re.Group's Technical Services team in Australia.
  • Coordinate commissioning readiness, start-up and operational stabilisation.
  • Support the transition of the facility from project delivery into ongoing operations.

About you

You will be an experienced senior implementation or programme leader with a track record of bringing complex projects and operational environments together for a defined go-live.

You will ideally bring:

  • Significant senior-level experience in major implementation, mobilisation or programme delivery.
  • Experience across infrastructure, industrial, processing, logistics or operational environments.
  • Demonstrated success coordinating multiple interdependent workstreams through construction, commissioning and start-up.
  • Strong programme governance, risk, commercial and financial management capability.
  • Experience working with senior clients, contractors, partners and geographically dispersed teams.
  • A strong understanding of contract-driven environments with defined operational commencement and performance obligations.
  • UK infrastructure or operational project experience would be highly regarded.
  • Experience in recycling, resource recovery, high-throughput processing or container deposit schemes would be advantageous.

Why this opportunity?

This is a rare opportunity to play a central role in establishing a major new recycling facility from the ground up. You will work across teams in Scotland and Australia and help take the facility from implementation through commissioning, go-live and into successful operations.

If you have led complex programmes where project delivery, commercial requirements and operational readiness must come together for a fixed go-live date, we would like to hear from you.
