Altrad Project Lead Engineer Opportunity

As a Project Lead Engineer, you will act as the technical authority for civil and structural engineering, ensuring that structures, infrastructure, access arrangements and associated works are safe, compliant, fit for purpose and delivered in accordance with approved requirements, standards and design intent.

Key Deliverables

  • Lead engineering work packages and coordinate multi-discipline engineering interfaces.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to Project Engineers and deputise for the Engineering Manager when required.
  • Develop and maintain clear scopes of work, technical requirements, design criteria and acceptance requirements.
  • Develop and manage user, functional, system and stakeholder requirements, ensuring traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support optioneering, feasibility studies, surveys, investigations and Early Contractor Involvement activities.
  • Review structural analyses, calculations, drawings, specifications, models, reports and design substantiation.
  • Ensure appropriate consideration of load cases, stability, fatigue, durability, corrosion, accidental actions, constructability, maintainability and design life.
  • Manage detailed design activities in accordance with site requirements, applicable legislation, standards and relevant good practice.
  • Carry out technical assessment and acceptance of consultant and contractor deliverables, including work instructions, method statements and risk assessments.
  • Chair and contribute to design reviews, technical workshops and interface meetings, recording and driving engineering actions to closure.
  • Provide technical oversight during fabrication, construction, installation, integration, testing, commissioning, handover and close-out to confirm compliance with design intent.
  • Work closely with BIM/CAD, configuration management, document control, safety, environmental, quality and project controls teams.
  • Respond to technical queries, manage engineering issues and support the proportionate resolution of non-conformances and design changes.
  • Liaise with operators, maintainers, site stakeholders, safety case teams, designers, contractors and original equipment manufacturers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Comply with Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality requirements and support continuous improvement across the project.

  • Chartered Engineer status, or demonstrable progress towards chartership supported by continuing professional development.
  • Substantial civil / structural engineering experience across concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Demonstrable ability to review and technically assure structural calculations, design reports, drawings, specifications and engineering substantiation.
  • Experience leading engineering work packages, coordinating multi-discipline interfaces and managing requirements, technical risk and change.
  • Experience of site implementation, construction assurance and confirming compliance with design intent in a highly regulated environment.

Desirable

  • Experience of structural assessment of existing assets, intrusive surveys, material condition assessment and development of repair or refurbishment solutions.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety cases, safety-classified structures, systems and components, and nuclear safety committee / authorisation arrangements.
  • Experience of BIM-enabled delivery, configuration management and requirements management.
