Projects Lead – Team Leadership Role

About the Role
Primary responsibilities include:
- Acting as first-line management for the Projects team, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
- Allocating daily tasks, managing performance, development, and workflow.
- Maintaining standards and KPIs while supporting—and driving—the team towards exceeding margin and delivery goals.
- Serving as the primary customer point of contact (duration unknown).
- Proactively communicating latest delivery forecasts.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
As Projects Lead, you will be accountable for:
Core Project Leadership
- Maintain a positive and safe working environment.
- Drive KPI results alignment with company values and principles—always doing the right thing.
- Be a key leadership team member at Hillington.
- Proactively coach, develop, and manage team performance.
- Act as the primary focal point for contracts under your team’s control.
- Implement continuous improvements across the function.
- Ensure safe, incident-free delivery of all projects under your management.
- Oversee complete project lifecycle—from contract award to delivery.
- Drive team collaboration with key functions:
- Commercial (financial strategy),
- Engineering,
- Quality,
- Procurement,
- Manufacturing,
- Shipping—to meet delivery milestones.
- Serve as trade compliance leader for Hillington’s projects.
- Arrange key customer visits and witness activities.
- Develop and maintain high-level contract plans.
- Work with support teams to resolve delivery-plan adherence issues (escalate where applicable).

Resources and Operations
- Manage project change through variation orders, capturing deviations and recovering costs.
- Effectively delegate tasks and optimise resource use.
- Identify and address bottlenecks along the value stream.
- Produce internal and external project status reports.
People Manager Responsibilities
- Lead the team with enablement and engagement, fostering collaboration.
- Help your team understand their personal interests and how to balance work and responsibilities.
- Maintain related relationships through open and honest coaching, using feedback to identify strengths and areas for growth.
- Align personal aspirations with team performance goals.
- Enable opportunities for career progression/stretch roles within the team.
- Work with HR to create and maintain a competency matrix and training plans.
- Ensure training/development plans are actioned effectively.
- Promote health and wellbeing, monitoring absence and driving inclusivity.
- Drive performance measurement, development planning and annual review processes.
Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Proven track record in building and leading effective teams, ensuring team members succeed in meeting stretch targets.
- Expertise in customer-focused delivery planning.
- Strong interpersonal skills—effective communication with conflict resolution, assertive team leadership.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills (internal to external).
- Proficiency in SAP and Excel (used daily).
- Keen numeracy and attention to detail.
- High-level understanding of scheduling, project management, and planning frameworks.
- Prior people management experience preferred.

Physical Demands
-No manual labour involved, but reasonable adequacy expected across typical office work tasks, including:

Working Conditions
- Office location will be in a shared or individual desk environment.
- Extended computer use and/or lengthy travel periods (car/plane).
