Job Description

Job Title: Project Lead – SSN-AUKUS Programme Integration Office (SPIO)

Location: Bristol /Derby/ Hybrid

Working Pattern: Full Time / Permanent

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Controller – SSN-AUKUS Programme Integration Office (SPIO) in Bristol /Derby.

We are seeking a dynamic, self-starting Project Lead to join the new SSN-AUKUS Programme Integration Office (SPIO). The SPIO is a bilateral integrated team of professionals, made up of government and industry from the UK and Australia. Whilst the detailed objectives and construct of the SPIO can be found in the CONOPS (please request via the AusCap team), in summary the main objective is to act as the interface between two separate national programmes by analysing and administering resolution to identified interdependencies. In this highly visible, secondment-based role, you will be embedded directly into our customer organisation, SDA, whilst working alongside colleagues from ASA, BAE, ASC and others where applicable.

Your primary near-term objective is to "set to work" the new SPIO—taking it from a conceptual mandate to a fully operational, high-performing strategic engine. This role requires an individual who is highly comfortable shaping and driving tangible outputs from an ambiguous starting point, transforming broad strategic intent into structured execution.

What you will be doing

  • SPIO Mobilisation: Define the governance, operating rhythm, and structural framework required to successfully set up and "set to work" the SPIO.
  • Drive Execution: Take ownership of undefined, high-level objectives and rapidly translate them into actionable, phased project plans.
  • Stakeholder Management: Engage closely with senior stakeholders across the customer organisation to navigate complex dynamics, manage expectations, and drive project buy-in.
  • Programme Oversight: Identify dependencies, manage cross-functional workstreams, and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure seamless integration and delivery.
  • Transition & Legacy: Facilitate knowledge sharing and build sustainable capabilities within the host organisation to ensure long-term operational success beyond the secondment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
