Description
The Project Leader supports Mativ's Innovation and Technical Development function by leading new product and process development initiatives that drive sales growth, improve profitability, and enhance the quality and cost competitiveness of existing products. This role is responsible for managing multiple technical projects, evaluating new business opportunities, delivering innovative solutions, and providing technical expertise to customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
This is an exciting opportunity to directly contribute to Mativ's growth strategy through innovation, customer collaboration, and continuous improvement initiatives while gaining exposure to global projects and cross-functional leadership opportunities. The position is based in Gilberdyke and operates in an onsite capacity. Reporting to the R&D Director, this individual will lead and support product development projects from concept through commercialization, working closely with manufacturing, quality, commercial, and technical teams to deliver robust products and processes that meet customer needs and business objectives. The role offers significant opportunities to influence the innovation pipeline, strengthen technical capabilities, and contribute to the long-term success of the organization.
Responsibilities
- To co-ordinate and/or directly lead a number of projects of varying complexity monitoring progress against plan to achieve agreed timescales & incorporating risk mitigation activities.
- To carry out functional activities on formal projects and idea assessment, specifically planning, design and running of trials which result in a thorough understanding of key process variables. All activities to be carried out with full consideration of safety implications including risk assessments.
- Build relationships with customers & suppliers to understand their products and processes and requirements. Work closely with customers to help them overcome material or process issues which may arise when converting DelStar products
- To document stages of development such that all projects and any product and/or process upon introduction into the manufacturing area complies with the required internal quality standards e.g. ISO9001.
- To propose and/or investigate new opportunities, assessing their quality & business potential in order that the Innovation pipeline can be extended and the project portfolio yields maximum value.
- To provide technical information and support across the business and to liaise with customers and suppliers to improve the performance and quality of new and existing products.
- To be actively involved in addressing own personal performance needs and gaining knowledge of new techniques, materials and products relevant to the business thus improving the technical capability and efficiency of the department and factory.
- Where applicable, as a trained auditor or safety representative, be actively involved in the internal quality audit and safety assessment programs completing documents in a timely and thorough manner and contributing to system improvements.
- Contribute to wider business by providing technical expertise and applying problem solving and planning techniques to allocated RCAs, complaint investigation and other process improvement activities that will improve the business KPIs.
- Carrying out project related activities with minimal supervision demonstrating the ability to assess and mitigate risks, plan for contingencies and produce high standards of accuracy in practical and written work.
- Cultivating a partnership approach through leadership of Project teams building understanding and motivating team members resulting in informed decision making, and improvements in assessment of risks and time to market
- Satisfying the project timescales and intermediate milestones but with attention to delivering a robust process and quality product which meets the customer needs.
- Effective generation and assessment of opportunities resulting in incisive proposals on whether to progress or stop further work.
- Effectively handling internal and external customer requests for technical support.
- Cultivating technical excellence within relative stream and a platform for developments in focus market areas.
- Liaise with other DelStar / SWM technical groups

Qualifications

Required
- A science based Degree / BTEC qualification is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in a technical environment, preferably involving knowledge of polymer processing, film manufacture, adhesive coating or other web based manufacturing.
- Experience of dealing with customers directly.
- Periodic completion of review meeting information, project statements, design reviews and financial statements.
- Leadership of projects as assigned typically 2-10 including critical, complex projects and idea assessment.
- Occasional travel, including international, will be required.
- Flexibility to run trials around factory shift system
