Structural Steel Project Manager

Location: Northumberland

Project: Major Data Centre Scheme

Rate: Competitive freelance day rate

Duration: Long-term contract

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Structural Steel Project Manager to join a major data centre scheme in Cambois, Northumberland.

This is a significant project requiring a strong project management background, with particular experience in structural steelwork, steel erection, and the coordination of complex construction activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of structural steel packages, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality and programme standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the structural steel package from planning and coordination through to installation and completion.
  • Oversee structural steel contractors, subcontractors, and site teams.
  • Coordinate steelwork activities with the wider construction programme and other trades.
  • Monitor progress, programme, quality, and health & safety across the package.
  • Liaise with the client, consultants, design teams, and other project stakeholders.
  • Review drawings, specifications, fabrication details, and installation requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical, logistical, and programme issues.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with project specifications and relevant standards.
  • Maintain accurate project records, reports, and progress updates.
  • Drive the successful delivery of the package in line with project milestones.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Project Manager within structural steelwork.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, erection, and installation.
  • Experience managing steelwork packages on major commercial, industrial, or data centre projects.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple contractors and manage complex interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of construction programmes, quality control, and health & safety.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Relevant construction qualifications, with SMSTS and CSCS preferred.
