The Project Manager

The Project Manager is a senior role within the Estates and Facilities Directorate, responsible for delivering capital and major revenue projects across Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the post holder will manage projects through all stages, from feasibility and design to procurement, construction, and handover.

The role involves leading healthcare construction, refurbishment, and compliance projects, ensuring delivery within agreed timescales, budgets, and quality standards while meeting NHS guidance and statutory requirements. The post holder will provide specialist advice on healthcare estates, building construction, engineering services, Health Building Notes (HBNs) and Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver capital and major revenue projects from feasibility to completion.
  • Develop project briefs, business cases, cost plans, and project programmes.
  • Manage project design, procurement, construction, and handover.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
  • Provide specialist advice on healthcare estates, HBNs, HTMs, building regulations, and statutory compliance.
  • Manage consultants, contractors, architects, engineers, and suppliers.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including Project Initiation Documents (PIDs), risk registers, project plans, and reports.
  • Monitor budgets, approve payments, and ensure value for money.
  • Lead tendering and procurement activities in line with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues, and change control.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, Building Safety Act, Fire Safety, and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Liaise with clinical teams, senior managers, and stakeholders to support service and patient care needs.
  • Present project updates and recommendations to committees and senior leadership.
  • Support sustainability, compliance, and estate improvement programmes.
  • Deputise for the Senior Project Manager and undertake site inspections as required.

Fordcombe Hospital, near Tunbridge Wells, became part of the Trust in October 2024. Specialising in planned care, it offers two operating theatres, 28 inpatient and day-care beds, diagnostic services (X-ray, MRI, CT, and endoscopy), and consultation/treatment rooms.
