Overhead Line Project Manager – 12 Month Contract – Livingston / Oban, Scotland – 11kV / 33kV Distribution – Monday to Friday

I’m working with an established utilities contractor looking to appoint Overhead Line Project Managers to support an extensive programme of 11kV and 33kV overhead line rebuilds across electricity distribution networks in Scotland.

The roles will involve:

  • Planning and managing overhead line rebuilds across 11kV and 33kV distribution networks.
  • Managing multiple schemes, typically with one or two in construction and three or four in planning.
  • Interpreting overhead line drawings and developing practical delivery plans, including large rebuilds.
  • Ensuring labour, subcontractors, materials, vehicles and equipment are organised ahead of the works.
  • Coordinating with Contract Managers, site teams and the network operator to meet agreed programmes.
  • Monitoring project delivery against safety, quality, environmental, financial and operational targets.
  • Surveying and quoting individual projects against the contract schedule of rates.
  • Reviewing subcontractor applications for payment and monitoring project costs.
  • Maintaining project plans and progress information, with planning largely managed through Excel.
  • Monitoring site and subcontractor performance, ensuring incidents are reported and improvements implemented.
  • Ensuring compliance with company and overhead line policies, procedures and safety requirements.
  • Attending sites where required to assess delivery issues and support the teams, with daily site supervision managed by the site supervisors.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
