Sizewell C’s Business
Sizewell C’s business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Overall, whilst the Company is in the construction phase, the Boards’ principal focus is on the development and construction of Sizewell C on time, on budget and to the highest quality and safety standards. The Company is maturing to meet all these requirements.
Sizewell C is economically regulated by OFGEM under the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model similar to other UK electricity distribution networks and Thames Tideway.
Sizewell C construction strategy is to replicate the design of Hinkley Point C, using the majority of the same supply chain, but innovating in the way it is delivered to achieve savings in time and cost of around 20%. The CCO will need to be guided by and incorporate lessons learned from the Hinkley Point C commercial delivery to achieve Sizewell C’s ambition.
Following Financial Completion and Revenue Commencement, Sizewell C is fully funded and is owned by; The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero representing HM Government, La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber Infrastructure.
We are now looking for a Project Manager (Design Project Manager), Civil Works Programme Engineering & Technical Sizewell C (SZC)
Location: Bristol or London – hybrid, full time, minimum 3 days per week in the office
Salary: Circa £66,866 depending on experience
Bonus: 5% annual incentive
Pension: Up to 7.5% employee contribution / 15% employer contribution
Holiday: 28 days plus bank holidays
Impact
As Project Manager you will work operationally for the Senior Project Manager and Programme Engineering Manager in delivery of the defined concrete design or detailing scope. You will functionally have a reporting line to the Civil Works Programme Engineering and Technical Teams. As Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for:
- Manage design or detailing contracts within delegated budget and authority, including management of claims and variations via CEMAR.
- Deliver agreed design scope to programme milestones, working with schedulers to maintain and update design schedules aligned to construction needs.
- Manage cost, schedule and scope changes through the SZC Change Management process, with technical support from engineering leads.
- Manage Technical Queries response and escalation with the support of the Assistant Project Manager and Contract Engineering Lead.
- Work with the Commercial Manager to monitor Key Dates applicable to scope area.
- Report progress in line with SZC reporting requirements and delivery cadence.
- Support procurement of Level 3 design supply contracts and task orders in line with SZC governance.
- Identify and manage design delivery risks in accordance with SZC risk management processes and Risk Manager.
- Escalate commercial or technical issues to the Senior Project Manager where required.

What we’re looking for
This role will suit someone with proven experience of managing the end-to-end detailed design sequence in major projects. You’ll bring strong organisation skills, confidence working with data, and the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders. Most importantly, you’ll be keen to take responsibility, learn, and develop.

Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer or Project Professional, or demonstrably working towards chartership
- Experience in managing external design companies and/or multi-disciplinary teams, including integration, design and delivery management
- Ability to effectively manage and influence various stakeholders, both internal and external
- Exposure to projects from concept through to handover
