Job Description

About us

Fusion, the process that powers the sun and stars, is one of the most promising options for generating the cleaner, carbon-free energy that our world badly needs. UKAEA leads the way in realizing fusion energy, partnering with industry and research organisations to achieve ground-breaking advancements. Our goal is to bring fusion electricity to the grid by developing the power stations of tomorrow and the skilled workforce to deliver them.

About the job

As Project Manager, you’ll lead the delivery of projects or programme workstreams supporting UKAEA’s fusion energy mission. You’ll manage projects across areas including science, engineering, technology, research and facility development, with typical annual budgets of £500,000 to £5 million. You’ll ensure agreed outcomes are delivered within time, cost and quality requirements.

We are recruiting four Project Managers on 24-month fixed-term appointments. The roles are available on either a full-time or part-time basis, and we welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible working arrangements. If applying part-time, please indicate your preferred working pattern in your cover letter.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Lead projects and multidisciplinary delivery teams through the full project lifecycle.
  • Develop project management plans, schedules, milestones and delivery controls.
  • Select and apply suitable delivery methodologies, including waterfall, agile, hybrid or iterative approaches.
  • Manage budgets, monitor financial performance and address forecast under or overspends.
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues, dependencies and changes.
  • Build effective relationships with senior stakeholders, technical teams, suppliers and external partners.
  • Coordinate project governance, assurance reviews and reporting to boards and senior leaders.
  • Manage supplier contracts, procurement activity and contractual performance.
  • Maintain business cases and benefits realisation plans throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Secure project resources and provide guidance, support and coaching to delivery teams.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
