We are currently recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join our client’s team, delivering engineering capital projects across the South West.

Based in Exeter with hybrid working available, this is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager with a background in engineering, utilities, infrastructure or construction, looking to take ownership of projects from concept through to completion.

The Role

  • You will be responsible for managing project scope, budgets, programmes, risks, contractors, and stakeholders, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially, and to the required quality standards.
  • Lead engineering capital projects and smaller workstreams from initial planning through to completion.
  • Manage project budgets, expenditure, forecasts, and overall cost performance.
  • Develop and maintain project programmes, milestones, and key delivery dates.
  • Identify and manage project risks and opportunities, taking action to address potential issues.
  • Coordinate consultants, contractors, and external delivery partners.
  • Manage NEC contracts, including early warnings, compensation events, and commercial matters.
  • Work with commercial teams to maintain effective financial and contractual controls.
  • Ensure projects meet internal governance, regulatory, and approval requirements.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and maintain clear communication across all project stakeholders.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, environmental performance, and quality.
  • Oversee commissioning, handover, and project close-out.
  • Provide clear project updates covering progress, performance, risks, and key issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project delivery, efficiency, and processes.
  • Build effective relationships with operational teams, customers, and key stakeholders.

About You

  • Proven experience delivering engineering, utilities, infrastructure, or construction projects.
  • Experience managing project budgets, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Working knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial processes.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Confident problem-solver with strong decision-making abilities.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on safety, quality, programme, and commercial performance.
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • APM PMQ, PRINCE2 Practitioner, or equivalent project management qualification.
  • Ideally, chartered status or working towards professional accreditation, NEC accreditation, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent.
