Project Manager - Defence, Logistics
Contract Role – 6 Months (Inside IR35)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support a complex, multi-site defence operations programme. This is a fast-paced role suited to a highly capable individual who can manage without close supervision, working across live operational activity, logistics coordination, and programme support functions.
The role will involve overseeing elements of project plans and supporting live operational activity in the UK and overseas, including complex logistics and coordination requirements for challenging environments (e.g. remote/extreme locations). Experience in high-level logistics, freight, or cargo coordination would be highly advantageous.
Key Details
- Location: Bristol – approximately 60% on-site, dependent on operational tempo. Attendance may vary significantly week to week (e.g. several days one week, none the next), with a requirement to attend all face-to-face workshops.
- Contract Length: 6 months (with potential for extension, subject to internal approval)
- IR35 Status: Inside IR35

- Support the development and implementation of operational strategy, ensuring alignment with relevant defence frameworks and lines of development
- Contribute to business case documentation (SOC, OBC, FBC) from an operational perspective
- Support development and refinement of User Requirements Documents to reflect operational needs
- Assist in translating operational requirements into technical specifications and deliverables
- Coordinate with a range of stakeholders, including Front-Line Commands, to ensure operational needs are met
- Support planning and execution of operational trials, testing, and evaluation activities
- Monitor and report on progress of operational deliverables and milestones
- Identify and help manage operational risks, developing mitigation strategies
- Contribute to development of training plans for operational personnel
- Support transition planning for capability entering service
- Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant policy and acquisition frameworks
- Help ensure capability meets required safety, environmental, and security standards
- Maintain accurate records of operational requirements and deliverables
- Support development of KPIs to measure operational effectiveness
- Support stakeholder engagement activities, including organising meetings and workshops
- Provide input into procurement strategy from an operational standpoint
- Support integration of capability into the wider operating environment, ensuring interoperability
- Contribute to capture and documentation of lessons learned
- Provide administrative and logistical support for operational planning and decision-making

Candidate Profile
- Proven experience managing complex, multi-faceted operations
- Strong background in coordination and logistics at a senior level (e.g. cargo, freight, or equivalent complex logistics management)
- Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities without close supervision
- Experience supporting programme/project delivery within a structured governance environment
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Flexibility to travel to site as operational requirements dictate
