Project Manager Opportunities – QinetiQ Defence Function

Join us as a Project Manager at our Boscombe Down site, where you will work alongside some of the most brilliant minds at the forefront of cutting-edge technology. In this crucial role, you’ll develop, procure, and integrate systems onto test and evaluation ranges, while delivering trials, training, and operational exercises to keep our defence capabilities world-leading.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily work will involve:
- Testing, researching, supplying, preparing, and sustaining client platforms and weapon systems for operational use, providing test, exercise, modelling, analysis services, and laboratory facilities in safe, realistic, and instrumented environments.
You will be responsible for:
- Developing clear, compelling customer proposals
- Delivering projects safely, on time, within cost and quality parameters
- Producing and maintaining robust project plans, cost schedules, and PPM (Project Portfolio Management) tools for effective forecasting and expenditure control
- Conducting regular, open, honest, and timely project reporting using corporate tools to meet financial reporting requirements
Essential Experience & Qualifications
Professional Requirements
- Proven track record of successfully delivering projects and programmes to defined cost, timescale, and budget targets
- Ability to decompose complex issues into structured, methodical details
- Direct experience in procurement and tendering processes, including:
- Producing technical specifications
- Defining supplier selection criteria
- Managing contractual agreements
- Hands-on experience in the systems engineering discipline

Key Details
- Location: Boscombe Down, QinetiQ site
- Hours: 37 hours per week (minimum of three days per week on-site)
- Travel: Expected travel to test sites at Aberporth, West Freugh, and the Hebrides
- Clearance: Mandatory SC (Security Check) clearance eligibility for all applicants
- Additional national security vetting processes may apply; existing vetting may transfer.
About Boscombe Down
MOD Boscombe Down is a unique operational site, home to the longest military runway in the UK. Specialising in testing, evaluation, and support services, this facility underpins the UK’s aviation and aerospace defence capabilities:
- World-class flight-testing infrastructure
