Project Manager – Substations
Location: South West England – M5 Corridor, Gloucester to Cornwall
Salary: Up to £85,000 + car allowance + bonus
Job Type: Permanent

We’re working with a leading infrastructure business delivering major projects across the UK energy network.
Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in HV substations and energy infrastructure to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager who has delivered complex Design & Build projects and is comfortable managing multidisciplinary teams, commercial performance, programme, risk, and client relationships.
The Role
As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of major HV substation projects, working across the full project lifecycle from initiation through to completion. You will lead an integrated project team and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the delivery of HV substation projects, including projects up to 400kV
- Managing projects from initiation through to completion
- Leading multidisciplinary teams across construction, commercial, design, and engineering
- Taking overall responsibility for programme, cost, quality, and delivery
- Developing and managing project programmes
- Managing project risks, opportunities, and mitigation plans
- Providing strategic leadership around health, safety, and environmental performance
- Managing client, supplier, and stakeholder relationships
- Providing technical and contractual leadership throughout the project
- Working closely with the Commercial Manager on monthly CVRs and financial performance
- Ensuring projects meet contractual and commercial targets
- Supporting procurement and supply chain management
- Contributing to tender submissions and new business opportunities
- Ensuring compliance with relevant construction, health & safety, and electrical regulations
- Regularly attending project sites across the South West

About You
We're looking for an experienced Project Manager who can demonstrate:
- Proven experience delivering HV substation or major energy infrastructure projects
- Strong Design & Build project management experience
- Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams
- Strong understanding of NEC contracts and commercial management
- Experience managing programme, budgets, risks, and project delivery
- Strong client and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working across the full project lifecycle
- Good understanding of construction health & safety requirements, including CDM
- Strong commercial awareness and financial management capability
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
- A relevant construction, engineering, or project management background
- A recognised project management qualification such as APM, PMP, or equivalent would be advantageous
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to project sites
