Project Manager – Autonomous Systems

Location: Paddington, London, with regular international travel

Help us turn ambitious autonomous technology into dependable real-world deployments.

About Kybera

At Kybera, we're building the infrastructure that enables autonomous systems to operate safely, reliably and at scale in complex industrial environments.

Our technology brings together mapping, simulation, fleet intelligence and autonomous vehicles to help industrial operators move from digitisation and early-stage automation towards safe, scalable autonomous operations.

We're starting with ports and logistics, where autonomous technology has to work in the real world: alongside people, existing vehicles, infrastructure and legacy systems.

We're a small, highly technical team tackling some genuinely difficult engineering problems, with the opportunity to help shape how industrial autonomy moves from pilot projects into everyday operation.

About the Role

We're looking for a Technical Project Manager – Autonomous Systems to lead the delivery of complex programmes spanning our product roadmap, engineering development, safety and certification, and customer deployments.

This will be Kybera's first dedicated Project Management hire, so this isn't a role where you'll inherit a heavyweight PMO or simply manage an existing process. You'll help create the practical structure, visibility and delivery rhythm that enables a fast-moving engineering organisation to execute well as we scale.

You'll sit at the intersection of Product, Engineering, Safety, Testing and our customers, turning ambitious technical roadmaps into clear, executable plans and helping multidisciplinary teams move from development and validation through to successful deployment in real operational environments.

It's a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complicated delivery problems, bringing clarity to ambiguity and working closely enough with technical teams to understand what's really driving a project.

What you'll be doing

  • Own delivery plans across product development, engineering, safety and certification, customer trials and live deployments.
  • Turn technical roadmaps into clear plans, milestones and dependencies across autonomy software, hardware, systems engineering, testing and safety.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and ensure risks, blockers and cross-team dependencies are identified early and driven through to resolution.
  • Lead project delivery for customer deployments, including site readiness, integration, testing, commissioning and operational trials in the UK and internationally.
  • Act as a key delivery interface with customers and external partners, keeping expectations, actions, dependencies and priorities aligned.
  • Coordinate programme activity supporting Kybera's autonomous vehicle safety and certification work, ensuring evidence, verification activities and external dependencies are reflected in delivery plans.
  • Give leadership clear, useful visibility of progress, priorities, risks and decisions without creating unnecessary process or bureaucracy.
  • Establish pragmatic project management tools, reporting, governance and ways of working that suit a fast-growing technical business.
  • Help shape how Project Management develops at Kybera, with the opportunity to influence and potentially build the function as our products, customers and deployment programmes grow.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

We'd love to hear from you if you have...

  • Experience leading complex technical projects or programmes involving multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • A strong understanding of engineering and product development, with the confidence to work closely with highly technical specialists and challenge constructively when needed.
  • Experience taking complex technology through development, integration, validation and into real-world deployment or operation.
  • Experience managing multiple interconnected workstreams, dependencies, risks and priorities in environments where plans can change quickly.
  • Strong customer and stakeholder management skills, including experience working with external customers, suppliers or technical partners.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to project management. You know when structure is useful, when it becomes bureaucracy and how to keep teams moving.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical progress, risks and decisions into clear information for different audiences.
  • Experience using tools such as Jira, Confluence or similar to create useful project visibility.
  • The flexibility to travel regularly to customer and deployment sites in the UK and internationally.
  • Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, automotive, industrial automation, functional safety, certification or other safety-critical engineering environments would be a real bonus.

Project or programme management qualifications such as APM, PRINCE2 or PMP are welcome, but they're much less important to us than evidence that you've successfully delivered complicated engineering projects in the real world.

Don't worry if you don't tick every box. We're interested in people with strong fundamentals, curiosity and the right mindset, even if your experience has taken a slightly different route.

Why Kybera?

You'll be joining Kybera at an exciting stage of our journey, as we take advanced autonomous technology out of development environments and into real industrial operations.

That means the problems we solve aren't theoretical. Our technology needs to work safely and reliably around people, vehicles, infrastructure and existing systems in complex environments where the real world rarely behaves exactly as expected.

We're a small, fast-moving team spanning autonomy, robotics, software, mechanical, electrical and systems engineering. You'll work closely with people across those disciplines, have genuine ownership from day one and be able to see the direct impact of your work.

We're building for the point where autonomy becomes useful at scale, not simply impressive in a demo.

As our first dedicated Project Management hire, you'll have an unusual opportunity to shape not just the projects you deliver, but how Kybera delivers projects as a company. As our customer base and deployment programme grow, there's real scope for this role to grow with them and help build the Project Management capability around you.

If you want to bring structure to genuinely difficult engineering challenges, work at the sharp end of autonomous deployment and help turn industrial autonomy into everyday operation, we'd love to hear from you.
