About Us

McDonalds has run its business in the UK since 1974 and currently operates over 1500 restaurants across the UK and Ireland, serving almost four million customers each day. McDonalds is one of the UK's largest private sector employers, employing over 170,000 people.

Department Overview

You will be a part of the Construction Department and more specifically the Reinvestment Team which is responsible for undertaking refurbishment and improvement projects of existing leasehold and freehold properties on both company owned and franchised restaurants. The property portfolio consists of traditionally constructed drive-thru and high street restaurants. The Reinvestment Team has an extensive programme of works to introduce Restaurant NEXT to every restaurant in the estate.

Purpose of this Role?

To provide construction knowledge and expertise, leadership, direction, supervision and administration in the planning, design and execution of:

  • Capital reinvestment projects in existing restaurants
  • Major maintenance or ad-hoc project work in existing restaurants

Duties

What will my accountabilities be?

With the support and guidance of a Construction Manager undertake the following:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of NEXT reinvestment construction projects
  • Undertake and manage key stakeholder engagements with parties such as Franchisees, Crew, Designers, QS’s, Contractors and other corporate departments (such as IT and Finance)
  • Coordinate and supervise all aspects of the detailed design
  • Ability to understand and challenge project costs to ensure best value is obtained for our franchisees
  • Monitor and communicate project programmes to ensure delivery
  • Work closely with supply chain and contractors to ensure project delivery
  • Obtain financial approval on project expenditure
  • Supervise, challenge and report any variance to project expenditure
  • Undertake site inspections, site meetings and defect identification inspections
  • Support the engagement of Principle Designers to ensure compliance of H&S regulations
  • Assist with ensuring compliance of McDonald’s standards, policies and specifications

Qualifications

  • 7 yrs construction project management or commercial or retail fitout background
  • RICS/CIOB/APM
  • Work autonomously
  • Experience of leading project teams to deliver high quality construction projects on time and to budget
  • Experience of developing a direct project manager report(s)
  • Clear strength in financial cost management
  • The ability to quickly build and maintain excellent relationships and influence key decision makers
  • Experience in managing multi-discipline professional teams
  • Be organised, analytical and have a proactive approach to problem solving
  • Be able to work to strict deadlines
  • Be inquisitive and willing to learn new skills
  • Have the ability to assimilate information quickly
  • Be confident to operate with a high degree of autonomy
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Computer Literate- Sophisticated Excel & PowerPoint. Project Management software experience is desirable
  • Be comfortable with and have experience of working in a fast paced and changing working environment
  • Be able to deal with challenging or complicated situations
  • Be able to work with energy and passion and encourage the same in others
  • Curious, collaborative and committed to continuous improvement
