About the Role
Are you a driven project leader with demolition expertise, a passion for safe, high-standard execution, and the ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget? Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd is seeking an experienced Demolition Project Manager to take ownership of projects—from smaller-scale works to large, technically challenging demolitions.
In this role, you’ll provide pivotal leadership, guiding teams, mitigating risk, and ensuring consistent excellence across all aspects of project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
As the primary leader of demolition projects, your duties will include:
Project Execution & Leadership
- Drive full cycle project success, from mobilisation through to delivery
- Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring safety, efficient workflows, and quality standards at every stage
- Develop and implement detailed method statements, risk assessments, and demolition plans
- Conduct ongoing performance reviews of projects to prevent delays or inefficiencies

Compliance & Sustainability
- Maintain strict adherence to health & safety (H&S), environmental regulations, and waste management protocols
- Champion waste reduction strategies, recycling targets (aiming for 90%+), and sustainable disposal methods
- Collaborate with clients, engineers, local authorities, and stakeholders to align operations with environmental sustainability goals
Team & Resource Management
- ** Lead and coordinate** subcontractor teams, workforce, and plant operations across complex sites
- Ensure personnel are properly trained, certified, and compliant with company standards
- Enforce a zero-tolerance policy on unsafe practices through regular inspections, audits, and toolbox talks
- Monitor project progress and adapt plans dynamically to overcome challenges such as:
- Structural instability
- Hazardous materials
- Restricted access or site conditions
Budget & Financial Oversight
- Control project budgets, resource allocation, and procurement decisions
- Maintain accurate financial tracking and report real-time financial position
- Ensure profitability while maintaining cost-efficiency in materials, labor, and equipment use.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Build and nurture strong relationships with clients, engineers, local authorities, and external stakeholders
- Provide transparent communication on project status, potential risks, and adjustments as needed.
