About Manor Marine
Established in 1981, Manor Marine is recognised as a premium full-service shipyard strategically located in Portland Port, Dorset, on the UK’s beautiful Jurassic Coast.
Our core services include vessel construction, service, repair, and refit together with marine and general engineering. We support projects across sectors such as commercial maritime, aquaculture, offshore energy, defence, law enforcement, and port services. Our customers range from one-boat owner-operators to large fleet contractors to governments.

- New vessel construction up to 50m, 500 tonnes, in steel and aluminium
- Vessel service/repair/refit/mobilisation up to 50m ashore and ±350m afloat
- Marine and general engineering, on site and internationally mobile
- Long term storage of subsea inter-array cables

The Role
We're looking for an experienced Project Manager / Estimator to lead the planning, estimating and delivery of commercial vessel construction, refit, repair and maintenance projects.
This is a senior, hands-on role requiring substantial marine industry experience. You'll develop accurate, commercially robust estimates, manage projects from enquiry through to completion, and ensure work is delivered safely, on time, to specification and within budget — working closely with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams.
You'll be based at our shipyard in Portland Port, Dorset. Hybrid working is a possibility, with occasional travel to visit customers, offsite projects and events. The role may occasionally require overtime or weekend working to meet project and customer requirements.

Estimating & Commercial Management
- Prepare accurate, commercially robust estimates and quotations for construction, refit, repair and maintenance projects
- Review enquiries, specifications, drawings and technical requirements to establish project scope
- Resolve customer queries and ambiguities before pricing and throughout delivery
- Identify technical, commercial and programme risk from design drawings
- Obtain and evaluate competitive prices from suppliers and subcontractors
- Use previous and similar works to support accurate pricing and spot efficiencies
- Develop project budgets, resource requirements and cost forecasts
- Monitor project costs, committed expenditure and financial performance
- Identify variations and commercial risks early, and ensure scope changes are properly documented, priced and agreed
- Support preparation and review of contractual and commercial documentation
Project Management & Delivery
- Own the planning and delivery of allocated projects from enquiry to handover
- Create and issue project plans covering milestones, objectives, resources and timescales
- Monitor plans and ensure actions are completed to agreed timescales
- Track progress through production, and ensure materials, equipment and resources are available when needed
- Identify and resolve issues affecting cost, quality or programme
- Report progress, risks and commercial performance to the General Manager
- Ensure required checks, inspections and completion activities are carried out and recorded
- Support commissioning, trials, acceptance and final handover
Customer & Supplier Management
- Act as a key point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle
- Provide clear, professional communication and regular progress updates
- Build strong working relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, negotiating pricing, availability and delivery where appropriate
- Manage customer expectations and support long-term relationships and repeat business
HSEQ
- Implement Manor Marine's Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures for all work under your control
- Ensure risk assessments, method statements and permits are in place and followed
- Initiate and record safety inspections, and report hazards, incidents, near misses and non-conformances
- Promote a positive safety culture and ensure work meets applicable legislation, company procedures and customer requirements

What We're Looking For
Essential
- Significant marine industry experience. Shipbuilding, ship repair, refit, marine engineering or similar
- Minimum 5 years managing or supervising marine projects, with demonstrable delivery responsibility
- Strong estimating and commercial experience, including quotations, budgets and cost forecasts
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications and technical requirements
- Experience obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Good understanding of marine production processes, materials, labour requirements and project planning
- Strong understanding of cost control, variations and commercial risk
- Excellent communication skills, with credibility at all levels of seniority
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Good written and spoken English, with sound mathematical ability
Desirable
- Relevant marine engineering, mechanical engineering, shipbuilding or project management qualification
- Experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary project teams
- Experience with commercial contracts and marine industry standards
- Experience using project management, estimating or financial management software
- Knowledge of HSEQ management systems and ISO-certified environments
