About The Role

Our work matters to millions. It’ll matter to you too. Join our Power Transmission and Distribution team as a Project Manager and be a key part of delivering complex, meaningful, and impactful projects.

As a Project Manager, You Will Be Responsible For

  • Overall accountability for the safe, successful and integrated project management of the Longside 400kV and 132kV Substations within the Netherton Hub, from design development and procurement through construction, commissioning, handover and close out.
  • Provide visible leadership to a large, multi-disciplinary Project Engineering group, with direct line-management responsibility and clear accountability for performance, development, workload, interfaces and delivery standards.
  • Lead the coordinated management of more than 100 work packages, ensuring scope, design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning interfaces are clearly defined, controlled and aligned to the accepted programme.
  • Determine and implement the most appropriate means of satisfying Balfour Beatty, customer and project requirements while balancing safety, time, cost, quality, scope, risk, opportunity, resources and whole-project benefits.

What you'll be doing

  • Own the project-management framework for the Longside 400kV and 132kV Substations and ensure delivery remains aligned with project governance, delegated authorities, contract requirements and the Netherton Hub delivery strategy.
  • Lead periodic project reviews (PRM), maintain the Digital Briefcase in accordance with GBL and provide clear, evidence-based reporting to the project leadership team.
  • Ensure accurate and auditable project records are maintained across all work packages, including decisions, progress, daily records, actions, approvals, changes, assumptions and interface commitments.
  • Coordinate internal and external reporting so that emerging issues, decisions and escalations are visible, owned and closed within agreed timescales.
  • Establish clear scope, information, configuration and interface-management arrangements for both substations and the associated Netherton Hub interfaces.
  • Use reliable project data to make timely decisions that are safe, contractually informed, cost effective and aligned with the overall Longside delivery strategy.
  • Demonstrate visible leadership and a relentless focus on Zero Harm across the 400kV and 132kV works, ensuring legal, client and Balfour Beatty requirements are understood and implemented.

Who we're looking for

The Following Qualities/experience Are Essential

  • Demonstrable track record of leading delivery on major, complex infrastructure, power transmission or substation projects through design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Experience managing concurrent delivery across multiple high-voltage systems, work fronts and interfaces, preferably including 400kV and/or 132kV substations.
  • Proven line-management experience with large multi-disciplinary engineering or project teams, including objective setting, workload management, coaching, development and performance management.
  • Experience establishing governance and control across a large portfolio of work packages, with clear accountability for scope, interfaces, programme, cost, risk, quality and completion.
  • Good working knowledge of standard forms of contract and the ability to apply contractual and commercial awareness to project decisions, change and recovery actions.
  • Strong project-management communication skills, including concise reporting, chairing reviews, influencing senior stakeholders and converting complex issues into clear decisions and actions.
  • Experience implementing safe systems of work and providing visible leadership in a live construction and high-hazard environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with the customer, leadership team, workforce, engineering disciplines, supply chain and other Netherton Hub stakeholders.
  • Holds a current UK driving licence
