Job Title: Project Manager — 14 Month Fixed-Term Contract (Maternity Cover)

Location: Fortress Interlocks, Wolverhampton (WV4 6FB) — Hybrid, 3–5 days per week in office

Salary: £50,000–£55,000 per annum

Contract Type: Fixed-Term (14 months), must be commutable to Wolverhampton

Team: PMO, reporting to the Lead Project Manager

About the opportunity
Fortress Safety is looking for a Project Manager to join our PMO on a business-critical 14-month maternity cover assignment. You'll take ownership of a portfolio of strategic projects — applying structured planning, sound decision-making and strong stakeholder engagement to deliver on time, in scope and on budget, all while supporting Fortress's continued growth.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Shaping project direction through strategic thinking, aligning initiatives with Fortress's wider business goals and PMO strategy
  • Leading and delivering multiple projects simultaneously, defining scope, goals and deliverables with all stakeholders
  • Proactively solving problems and making timely decisions to keep projects on track
  • Building and managing strong relationships across the business, with distributors and with customers
  • Communicating and influencing confidently at all levels, translating complex project detail into clear updates
  • Planning and prioritising competing project demands, managing resources, risks and timelines
  • Championing continuous improvement, refining and following our New Product Development process
  • Motivating and influencing cross-functional teams to deliver results, even without formal authority

What You'll Bring

  • Proven project management experience, ideally within an engineering, manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong strategic thinking, connecting individual projects to wider business objectives
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, comfortable navigating ambiguity under time pressure
  • Skilled stakeholder management, building trusted relationships at all levels
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across diverse teams and senior stakeholders
  • Effective planning and prioritisation across multiple concurrent projects
  • A continuous improvement mindset, always seeking smarter ways of working
  • University degree or equivalent experience gained on the job
  • Must have the right to work in the UK (this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship)

Nice to have

  • Formal project management certification, e.g. PRINCE2, APM or Agile/Scrum
  • Experience with project management software/tools, e.g. MS Project, Smartsheet
  • Experience in a regulated or safety-critical engineering sector
