About the vacancy
This is an opportunity to work on complex organisational change that spans multiple services, stakeholders and priorities. We're looking for a Project Manager who understands the difference between maintaining a project plan and actively managing a project schedule, and who can balance strong project controls with a pragmatic, people-focused approach to delivery.
This role sits within the Programmes Department and supports the delivery of organisation-wide transformation and business change projects across Hedyn. Our projects are not IT or capital investment projects. They are business projects focused on organisational integration, service improvement, customer experience, compliance, operational efficiency, data and insight, business process change and new ways of working.
Success in this role requires someone who can operate confidently and credibly across multiple service areas, balancing competing priorities and helping colleagues turn strategic objectives and business outcomes into practical, deliverable plans.
Applicants may come from a variety of sectors. However, success in this role requires the ability to apply project management approaches proportionately and pragmatically within a business change environment, adapting to the needs of the project and organisation rather than relying on a single methodology or delivery approach.
Specifically, in the role you will:
- Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals and deliverables and be responsible for the creation and upkeep of all project documentation including project schedules, and RAID logs
- Develop detailed project schedules using appropriate project planning software such as MS Project, defining project workstreams, tasks, resources, task relationships and owners
- Work closely with Programme Management Office colleagues and others to ensure effective ways of working ensuring that the right people are involved in projects at the right time and contributing ideas for improvements
- Work with the Programme Management Office to develop a programme level schedule through the aggregation of individual project schedules.
- Build and lead project delivery teams to successful project delivery, providing guidance and support where needed
- Report on progress of project(s) to all stakeholders and, where appropriate, to project governance groups which could include:
- Risk
- Budget
- Benefits realisation
- Project health
- Plan on a page
- Scheduling
- Lead the planning and implementation of projects
- Carry out any other duty as requested by the Programme Manager or Head of Programmes in support of the association and emerging objectives and policies.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
