Role Overview
As part of the Project Management Team, the role is responsible for leading innovative new product development and process/product enhancement projects from concept to launch.
The role-holder works cross-functionally and builds strong relationships with key members of the business overseeing multidisciplinary project teams as well as collaborating externally with suppliers, customers, inventors, and research groups as required. Reporting into and working closely alongside the Head of NPD Projects, this role is accountable for the successful delivery of these projects.
Please note this role is based on-site at our Global HQ in Worthing.
What You'll Be Doing
- Work within the NPD Project team to lead and deliver NPD projects in accordance with established Design Control and Project Management Procedures
- Manage multiple concurrent projects, providing leadership to cross-functional teams ensuring project execution to time, cost, and quality requirements through the application of best-practice Project Management principles
- Develop strong working relationships with key staff across the business, both at Sophi Switzerland and UK Head Office, particularly in Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Production, Ops Engineering, IS, R&D, Commercial, and Marketing teams to facilitate collaborative project delivery
- Ensure required project, design, and development records are planned, maintained, and progressed in accordance with the company QMS and Design Control requirements, including planning, risk management, design reviews, verification, validation, and design transfer
- Drive the project through the NPD/Design Control lifecycle, coordinating and tracking activities to ensure completion of required Design History Files and ensuring project activities are undertaken in accordance with the company’s QMS and applicable standards and regulations
- Chair productive and focused project team meetings, ensuring distribution and management of actions and minutes
- Identify, maintain, and actively manage project risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies (RAID), escalating significant matters and driving appropriate mitigation and recovery actions
- Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and resources through appropriate project governance
- When appropriate, source and manage external contractors and suppliers to support project delivery
- Communicate project status and escalate major issues/risks on a regular basis to the Head of NPD Projects, Project/Programme Steering Committees, and Project Review Group as appropriate, ensuring objectives and progress are aligned to business needs
- Maintain and monitor project plans, schedules, resource requirements, budgets, and expenditure
- Maintain a high standard of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational training/workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies

What Experience & Skills You Will Need
Essential
- Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline
- At least 3 years’ experience managing projects
- Experience of managing projects or working within technically complex engineering projects from concept to start of production/product launch
- Working knowledge of recognised project management methodologies and approaches (e.g. PRINCE2, waterfall, Agile, and hybrid delivery)
- Experience of New Product Development and working within regulated environments, with exposure to formal project and/or product change-control processes
- Proficient in the use of relevant Microsoft tools (e.g. Office, PowerPoint, Project, Teams)

Desirable
- Recognised project management qualification such as APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) and/or PRINCE2 Practitioner
- Experience managing projects in the Medical Device sector
- Experience contributing to or managing Programmes of Projects
- Working knowledge of applicable medical-device regulations, quality systems, and standards, e.g. ISO 13485, ISO 11979, ISO 14971, EU MDR 2017/745, UK MDR 2002, FDA 21 CFR Part 820/QMSR, and relevant product-specific standards
