Lead the Delivery of Mission-Critical Defence Capability
At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Project Manager at Babcock Technology Centre, near Bristol, Gloucestershire.
The Role
As a Project Manager, you'll have the opportunity to lead the delivery and performance management of a major subcontractor supporting a high-profile Royal Navy programme. This is a career-defining role where you'll work at the heart of complex defence technology projects, helping to deliver advanced capabilities that protect national security and support those who serve.
Working within our Mission Systems business, you'll collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, influence key delivery decisions, and drive programme performance across cost, quality, schedule, and risk. As the programme transitions from design and qualification into manufacture, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring successful delivery while developing your own leadership, commercial, and project management expertise within one of the UK's leading defence and engineering organisations.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Manage the performance of a major subcontractor to ensure delivery against contractual cost, quality, and schedule requirements.
- Monitor project risks, overseeing mitigation activities, and escalating issues where appropriate to maintain programme delivery.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support subcontractor performance and manage project interdependencies.
- Review contractual project management deliverables and tracking progress against software development and manufacturing plans.
- Support rolling programme planning activities through regular engagement with key stakeholders and subcontractor teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
