Job Title: Project Manager : Regional Main Contractor
Location: Reading / Berkshire (Thames Valley)
Salary: GBP65,000 - GBP75,000 + Car / Allowance + Package (Potentially negotiable DOE)
Are you an experienced Project Manager based in Berkshire or the Thames Valley looking to lead high-quality main contracting builds without the brutal travel of a London commute?
We are partnering with an established, highly respected Regional Main Contractor to recruit a standalone Project Manager to deliver commercial, educational, higher education, and specialist refurbishment schemes across Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and the M4 corridor.
Operating across project values from GBP1M up to GBP10M, this role will see you take full operational ownership of projects from pre-construction through groundworks, structural alterations, envelope, and high-spec fit-out to final handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Full Site Ownership: Take overall operational, safety, and client-facing responsibility as the lead Project Manager on standalone schemes up to GBP10M.
- Programme Execution: Drive site progress using Asta Powerproject, coordinating internal site management teams, subcontractors, and consultants.
- Client and Design Liaison: Manage relationships with client teams, architects, and quantity surveyors on JCT Design and Build and traditional contracts.
- Quality and H and S: Maintain rigorous health and safety standards, site logistics, and quality assurance in line with regional main contracting best practices.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
