About The Role
As demand for new electricity infrastructure continues to grow, Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution is expanding its Overhead Line (OHL) capability to support some of the UK's most significant energy projects.
We're looking for an experienced Construction Manager to join our team in Derby and play a key role in supporting the continued growth of our OHL portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the safe and successful delivery of overhead line construction works while helping shape the future of our growing business.
You'll provide leadership to construction teams across a range of transmission projects, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the high standards our clients expect. Working closely with Project Managers, engineers, subcontractors and stakeholders, you'll be instrumental in driving performance and delivering successful project outcomes.
What you'll be doing
As Construction Manager, you will lead site delivery activities, ensuring the successful execution of complex overhead line projects from mobilisation through to completion.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Leading and managing construction activities across multiple OHL projects
- Supporting Project Managers in delivering works safely, on programme and within budget
- Managing Site Managers, Supervisors, Engineers and subcontract partners
- Driving a culture of Zero Harm and ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance
- Reviewing and approving construction methodologies, RAMS and site documentation
- Carrying out site safety tours, audits and behavioural safety initiatives
- Coordinating labour, plant, equipment and materials to meet programme requirements
- Monitoring project performance and implementing improvement initiatives where required
- Reviewing technical information, drawings and construction outputs to ensure buildability and efficient delivery
- Managing stakeholder relationships and supporting client engagement activities
- Identifying and mitigating construction risks and resolving site issues
- Developing and mentoring team members to build capability across the business
- Supporting the ongoing growth and development of Balfour Beatty's OHL construction capability

Who we're looking for
This role requires an experienced construction leader with a strong background in overhead line infrastructure projects.
Essential
- Proven experience as a Construction Manager, Senior Site Manager or similar leadership position within the utilities, transmission or power sectors
- Demonstrable experience delivering Overhead Line (OHL) projects
- Strong understanding of transmission infrastructure construction methodologies
- Experience managing large site teams, subcontractors and supply chain partners
- Thorough knowledge of construction health, safety and environmental requirements
- Experience reviewing construction plans, drawings and technical information
- Strong planning, resource management and programme delivery skills
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities
- Ability to lead teams across multiple sites and workstreams
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required
Desirable
- Experience delivering National Grid, SSEN, SPEN or major transmission projects
- Background in transmission line refurbishment, reinforcement or new-build OHL schemes
- HNC/HND or degree in Civil, Electrical or Construction-related discipline
- SMSTS qualification
- Temporary Works knowledge
- NEBOSH or IOSH qualification
- Professional membership with a relevant engineering or construction institution
