AtkinsRéalis UK Infrastructure Project Delivery Practice (PDP) is the centre of excellence for the delivery of infrastructure projects and the home unit for our project management professionals. The team is responsible for the successful delivery of design and consultancy services across our key markets, including Water Infrastructure, Defence Infrastructure, Buildings and Places, Energy, and Aviation.
With recent project wins in the East Midlands and a growing portfolio of work with our Water and Defence clients, we have exciting opportunities for experienced Project Managers to join our Midlands team (based in Birmingham, Derby and Peterborough). As a Project Manager, you will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of complex multi-disciplinary projects, taking accountability for performance across scope, programme, cost, risk and quality. You will work closely with clients, stakeholders and technical teams to ensure successful project outcomes, driving delivery from concept and design development through to construction and handover. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to some of the UK's largest and most challenging infrastructure projects, supporting sustainable growth and delivering lasting value for our clients and communities.
Your role
- Lead and manage large and/or complex multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring successful delivery in line with agreed scope, programme, budget, quality, and client expectations.
- Establish clear project objectives, delivery strategies, and governance arrangements, ensuring alignment with business and client requirements.
- Provide project leadership and oversight to support successful project outcomes, proactively monitoring risks, issues, opportunities, and dependencies, and working closely with clients and project teams to implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Manage contractual and commercial aspects of projects, safeguarding AtkinsRéalis' interests while ensuring positive outcomes for clients and stakeholders.
- Contribute to a positive project culture by working collaboratively, sharing best practice and supporting less experienced colleagues.
- Contribute to the growth and capability of the wider project management team by sharing best practice and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, partners, and internal disciplines to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Develop, manage, and monitor project delivery programmes and implementation plans, ensuring effective resource planning and performance management.
- Monitor project financial performance, including revenue, costs, margins, risk allowances, and earned value metrics, taking corrective action where required.
- Support the management of contractual and commercial matters, including change control, project reporting, forecasting and cost management.
- Lead project close-out activities, ensuring contractual obligations are fulfilled, project documentation is archived, lessons learned are captured, and client feedback is obtained.
- Support business development activities, including client engagement, work winning, bid support, and the identification of new opportunities within strategic markets.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
