Salary: £84,000 - £95,000 + company benefits Location: Luton

Hays are working with a major UK construction group that turns over in excess of £1.4bn and has built a strong reputation for delivering large, complex projects across the commercial, industrial, logistics, education, residential and mixed-use sectors.

The business has a strong regional presence across London, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and the wider South East, with a healthy pipeline of secured and upcoming work. They are now looking to appoint a Project Manager to take a key role on a £60m commercial scheme in Luton, which is due to go live later this year.

The role will begin during the preconstruction stage, giving you the opportunity to be involved before the project reaches site. You will work closely with the design, planning, commercial and operational teams to help shape the programme, logistics, methodology and delivery strategy before taking the project forward into construction.

This would suit a Project Manager who has already delivered projects in the region of £40m+ and wants to join a larger, financially secure contractor with the scale, structure and pipeline to support long-term progression.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Why this role stands out

  • You will not be stepping into a project halfway through or inheriting someone else's decisions. You will be involved early, helping influence how the scheme is planned, procured and delivered.
  • The business is large enough to offer stability, major projects and proper career development, but still operates with a regional feel where Project Managers are given responsibility and visibility within the business.

The role will involve:

  • Taking a lead role on a £60m commercial project in Luton
  • Supporting the preconstruction process before the scheme moves to site
  • Working with design, planning and commercial teams to develop the delivery strategy
  • Reviewing programme, logistics, sequencing and buildability
  • Leading the project team once the scheme moves into construction
  • Managing client, consultant and supply chain relationships
  • Driving progress, quality, health & safety and programme performance
  • Reporting into the senior operational team
  • Ensuring the project is delivered to a high standard, both commercially and operationally

What they are looking for

The client is looking for a Project Manager who can offer more than just project delivery experience. You will need to have a proven track record delivering sizeable construction projects, ideally in the region of £30m-£40m+, with the personal approach, commercial awareness and leadership ability to bring a large project team together.
