Job Purpose

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Major Projects Division within Ipsum. The Project Manager is responsible for the safe, commercial, and successful delivery of high voltage electrical infrastructure projects from inception through to energisation and final handover. The role requires extensive experience within the Independent Connection Provider (ICP) sector, managing contestable and non-contestable works associated with electricity network connections ranging from LV through to 132kV.

The Project Manager will lead multidisciplinary project teams, coordinate with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs), National Grid stakeholders, clients, and subcontractors, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and industry standards.

About The Role

  • Manage the full project lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Deliver projects including new and existing substations, HV cable installations, renewable energy connections, BESS, commercial/industrial connections, and private infrastructure.
  • Develop and manage project programmes, resources, risks, and key milestones.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate contractors, engineers, and site personnel.
  • Act as the main point of contact for clients and key stakeholders.

HSEQ & Compliance

  • Promote a strong health, safety, environmental, and quality culture across all projects.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, company procedures, DNO requirements, CDM, G81, NERS, ENA, BS 7671, and ESQCR.
  • Review project RAMS, construction plans, permits, and other HSEQ documentation.
  • Support site audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

Commercial & Technical Management

  • Monitor project budgets, costs, forecasts, profitability, and contractual performance.
  • Manage subcontractors, variations, applications for payment, and change control.
  • Coordinate design development and ensure technical requirements are met.
  • Manage procurement, suppliers, specialist equipment, commissioning, and energisation activities.
  • Identify and resolve technical, commercial, and programme risks.

Stakeholder & Team Management

  • Maintain strong relationships with DNOs, IDNOs, National Grid, clients, developers, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Provide regular project updates and resolve issues proactively.
  • Lead, support, and mentor project engineers, site managers, and wider delivery teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned across projects.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Proven HV Project Manager experience with 132kV experience dealing with multiple projects and strong understanding of DNO/IDNO connection processes.
  • Knowledge of G81, NERS, ENA, CDM, and relevant electrical regulations.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and project finances.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable:

  • HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner and/or APM qualification.
