Technical Project Manager
Permanent | Christchurch | Jira | Engineering Delivery | Portfolio Reporting
We are seeking a highly organised and technically minded Technical Project Manager with deep Jira expertise to support the delivery of embedded software and engineering programmes.
The role will act as the central point for project governance, delivery reporting and portfolio visibility across multiple engineering workstreams. Using Jira as the primary delivery tool, you will provide oversight of epics, stories, dependencies, risks and progress, ensuring stakeholders have a clear and accurate view of project status.
Working closely with Technical Leads, Engineering Managers and programme stakeholders, you will take ownership of the project management and reporting activities that currently divert engineering leaders from their core technical responsibilities. You will help drive consistency, structure and transparency across delivery teams while providing portfolio-level insights to senior leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Own and coordinate project plans across hardware, firmware and mechanical engineering teams.
- Act as the Jira subject matter expert across engineering teams, promoting best practice and consistency.
- Develop and maintain Jira dashboards, reports and portfolio-level delivery metrics.
- Analyse epics, stories, sprint progress and delivery trends to provide actionable insights.
- Identify delivery risks, blockers and dependencies across multiple engineering programmes.
- Support Agile delivery practices, sprint planning, backlog management and delivery ceremonies where required.
- Provide portfolio-level reporting and executive summaries to senior stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement of project governance, delivery reporting and engineering planning processes.
- Work with Technical Leads to reduce administrative overhead and enable greater focus on engineering leadership and technical decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
