Job Description
Glasgow | Permanent | Full Time
Malcolm Hughes Land Surveyors is looking for an experienced Project Manager – Utility Surveys to join and help lead our Utility Survey Team in Glasgow.
This is an opportunity for an experienced utility survey professional to move into a role with real ownership of projects, people, clients, and commercial performance.
You will manage utility survey projects from initial planning and mobilisation through to final delivery, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, to the required technical standard, and within agreed programme and budget.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Managing multiple utility survey projects from instruction through to delivery.
- Planning survey resources, equipment, and programmes.
- Briefing and supporting Utility Surveyors and Trainee Surveyors.
- Providing technical guidance on PAS 128 utility surveys.
- Reviewing survey information and deliverables to maintain consistently high standards.
- Maintaining strong client relationships and acting as the main operational contact on your projects.
- Managing budgets, project performance, variations, and profitability.
- Carrying out site audits and ensuring SHEQ requirements are maintained.
- Developing and mentoring members of the Glasgow utility team.
- Helping us improve the way we deliver utility surveys through better processes, technology, and working practices.

What We’re Looking For
You will already have substantial experience within utility surveying and will understand what good project delivery looks like both in the field and commercially.
Ideally You Will Have
- Around five years or more utility survey experience.
- Strong knowledge of PAS 128.
- Practical experience of EML and GPR surveying.
- Experience managing or supervising projects and survey teams.
- The confidence to review technical work and challenge quality where necessary.
- Strong client-facing and communication skills.
- Good commercial awareness.
- A proactive, organised, and solutions-focused approach.
- A full UK driving licence.

A relevant professional qualification or membership of CICES/RICS would be advantageous, although attitude, technical ability, and leadership aptitude are more important to us than letters after your name.

Salary: Competitive, dependent upon experience
Location: Glasgow, with travel to project sites as required
