Two exciting Project Officer opportunities

Two exciting Project Officer opportunities have arisen within the Governance, Projects and Collaboration function – one permanent full-time and one part-time fixed term contract until end of March 2027. The roles are based at Central Headquarters, at our Eyre Street premises in Sheffield. The team are currently working to an Agile Working rota, with some days in the office and some working from home.

Project Officer

Location: SYFR Headquarters, Eyre Street, Sheffield S1 3FG – Hybrid Working

Salary: £36,363 - £39,152 per annum (£20,638 - £22,221 per annum actual for 21 hours per week) (Grade 7) *To increase subject to national pay award negotiations for 2026.

Roles

  • 1 x Permanent, Full-time 37 hours per week
  • 1 x Fixed Term Contract (to March 2027) Part-time, 21 hours per week

Overview

The overall purpose of the role will be to effectively support the management of internal and external projects for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. You must have a thorough understanding of the project lifecycle, to manage relevant service improvement processes like project support and governance, to drive service-wide service improvement in line with executive and audit requirements.

Requirements

To be considered for this role you will have previous experience of project and administration work, and proven experience of working in an accurate efficient manner to tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a small team to support project management, working closely with project managers to guide them to effectively use project methodology, project reporting and to evaluate projects using a benefits realisation approach.
  • Possess the interpersonal skills to work with staff across the service, as well as having the ability to plan, prioritise and organise to deadlines.
  • Be confident to work with staff across the organisation, including facilitating workshops and project group meetings.
  • Alongside your project support duties, possess a flexible approach to work to help the wider Information, Projects and Governance team as required. This includes monitoring the service’s policy updates, managing service improvement processes, and providing administration support to suitable boards, committees and groups.

Application

Closing date for applications is 23:59PM on Sunday 20 September. It is anticipated that interviews will be held week commencing 5 October.

Benefits

  • New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis.
  • We offer 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days.
  • We also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.
  • Most of our corporate roles offer flexi time and agile working, meaning people can vary their hours to suit their commitments outside of work as agreed with their line manager. Flexi time can be accrued with a potential of up to 13 days to be taken within a year.
  • All eligible corporate staff are auto-enrolled onto the Local Government Pension Scheme with personal contributions ranging from 5.5% to 12.5%. It is a defined benefit pension scheme that means pensions are based on salary and the length of paying into the scheme. 1/49th of your pensionable salary is added to your pot per year plus cost of living adjustments.
