Help us achieve our vision that fewer people die by suicide.
Samaritans is entering an important period of change as we strengthen how we provide emotional support to people across Scotland and make sure our services can reach people when and where they need us most.
We’re looking for a Project Officer to help us coordinate and deliver this work across Scotland. Working closely with our Programme Manager, you’ll help turn plans into action. Your work will include supporting new local volunteering and outreach activity, working with volunteers and branches, coordinating training and engagement, and helping us build strong relationships with partners and communities. You’ll play an important role in keeping activity organised and moving forward. This will include coordinating meetings and actions, tracking progress, helping identify issues or risks, and making sure colleagues and volunteers have the information they need.
Building good relationships will be central to the role. You’ll work with volunteers, staff and external partners across Scotland and will be an important point of contact for branches and volunteers involved in the work. You’ll also help make sure people are kept informed as plans develop and changes are introduced.
This is a varied role for someone who is organised, enjoys working with people and is confident turning plans into practical action. You’ll need to be comfortable working across different pieces of work at the same time, building relationships and helping others stay connected to what is happening.
It’s an opportunity to contribute to an important period of development for Samaritans in Scotland and to help shape how we support people and communities in the future.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
