PROJECT PLANNER (NEC4)

We are seeking an experienced NEC4 Project Planner/Scheduler to help us lead the development, governance, assurance, and continuous improvement of project and programme schedules across a capital investment portfolio of approximately 200 projects per annum.
This role will ensure the consistent application of NEC4 programme management requirements, supporting project teams and delivery partners in the creation and maintenance of high-quality programmes that enable effective planning, monitoring, and decision-making.
Job Description
We are looking for a subject matter expert in NEC3/NEC4 programme management who can drive best practice across the portfolio, establish robust programme controls, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
The successful candidate will play a key role in programme assurance, performance reporting, and stakeholder engagement across a complex project environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the creation, review, and maintenance of programme schedules across the capital projects portfolio.
- Develop integrated portfolio-level programmes that provide visibility of key milestones, dependencies, resource requirements, and delivery risks.
- Ensure all project programmes comply with NEC4 contractual requirements and recognised programme management best practice.
- Build, review, and update Gantt charts using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6.
- Develop and implement scheduling standards, programme templates, coding structures, and governance arrangements.
- Review contractor-submitted programmes and assess compliance with NEC contract provisions.
- Produce programme performance dashboards, reports, and management information for senior stakeholders.
- Implement programme assurance processes, including schedule health checks, quality reviews, and compliance audits.

About You
- Proven experience planning and scheduling major capital, infrastructure, or complex project programmes.
- Advanced scheduling capability using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
- Demonstrable experience working under NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts.
- Experience managing and assuring multiple project programmes within a large portfolio environment.
- Proven ability to develop integrated master schedules and programme controls frameworks.
- Experience supporting change control, compensation event assessments, and programme impact evaluations.
- Strong understanding of Critical Path Methodology (CPM), earned value principles, and programme risk analysis.
- Ability to analyse complex project information and identify delivery risks and opportunities.
- Experience producing reports and programme performance information for senior stakeholders and governance boards.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of programme impacts on project outcomes.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence and challenge constructively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience within utilities, rail, transportation, public sector, or infrastructure portfolios.
- Knowledge of Power BI, reporting tools, and portfolio analytics platforms.
