Project Planner
Role Purpose
The Project Planner will support the development, maintenance, and assurance of programme and project schedules, ensuring delivery plans provide clear visibility of milestones, dependencies, critical activities, and progress. Working with programme and project teams, the role will help maintain an integrated view of delivery, supporting effective planning, reporting, and decision-making.
The role requires an experienced planning professional who can work independently, engage confidently with stakeholders, and challenge plans where necessary to improve quality and delivery confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and monitor programme and project schedules using agreed planning standards and tools.
- Work with delivery teams to define milestones, activities, dependencies, and deliverables.
- Ensure plans are logically linked, accurately reflect delivery assumptions, and provide a realistic view of progress.
- Support the development and maintenance of integrated plans across multiple workstreams and projects.
- Identify, analyse, and track dependencies, risks, and schedule impacts.
- Undertake schedule analysis, including critical path and milestone tracking.
- Monitor progress against agreed baselines and provide forecasting and variance analysis.
- Support programme governance and reporting through the production of planning information, metrics, and dashboards.
- Facilitate planning workshops and stakeholder reviews to maintain schedule quality and delivery alignment.
- Provide planning expertise and guidance to project teams and stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of planning standards, processes, and ways of working.

Essential Experience
- Significant experience developing and maintaining project and programme schedules within a complex delivery environment.
- Demonstrable experience of dependency management, milestone planning, and schedule analysis.
- Experience supporting programme reporting, governance, and delivery assurance activities.
- Ability to analyse complex information and communicate findings clearly to a range of stakeholders.
- Experience working across multiple projects and managing competing priorities.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Proficiency in planning and scheduling tools.

Desirable Experience
- Experience working within government, transformation, business change, or large-scale delivery programmes.
- Knowledge of programme and project management methodologies such as PRINCE2, MSP, Agile, or APM approaches.
- Relevant project, programme, or planning qualifications.
