Who are we?

Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd is a family-run business owned and run by the Smith family since 1982. Smiths has grown from a single owner-operated plant hire company to a multifaceted group with family values still firmly at the heart of each project undertaken. With depots in Avonmouth, Cardiff, Gloucester, Stonehouse, and Tewkesbury, we operate predominately across the South-West of England. We specialise in Construction, Waste Management, Plant Hire, Demolition, and Transport operations.

Job Purpose

The Construction Project Planner is responsible for the development, monitoring, and management of project programmes across multiple groundworks and civil engineering projects. The role will ensure projects are accurately planned, resourced, monitored, and reported to support safe, efficient, and profitable delivery.

Working closely with Pre-Construction Manager, Commercial Manager, Contracts Managers, Site Managers, and Clients, the Planner will create robust construction programmes, identify risks and opportunities, monitor progress against key milestones, and provide regular reporting to senior management.

The role plays a critical part in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual obligations.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
